Seven Songs for this Season

Here are several of the songs I’ve been listening to during this season of life. Thanks to the friends who have shared these with me. Would love to hear what you think of them and to receive your recommendations.

1. “Into the Darkness” by Drew Miller

Go set out to make the world pretty
Redeem it with story and song
Say you’ll recognize truth for its beauty
And beauty will right every wrong
When death comes to deal its level worst
And all the fair things decompose
Making a mockery of your thirst
Into the darkness, into the darkness you’ll go
Into the darkness you’ll go

2. “Teach Me” by Citizens

When I can’t see an end in sight
And when I lose my will to fight
When I get all turned around
And when the silence breaks me down
What do you want to teach me
What do you want to teach me

3. “Becoming My Own Home” by The Collection

Well, your absence sets in with the early frost
And the things that I’ve loved are the things I have lost
The wheat from the chaff, the sheep from the goats
This year I am becoming my own home
This year I am becoming my home

4. “Springtime” by Chris Renzema

You’re the resurrection
That we’ve waited for
You buried the night
And came with the morning
You’re the king of heaven
The praise is yours
The longer the quiet
The louder the chorus…

We will sing a new song
‘Cause death is dead and gone with the winter
We will sing a new song
Let “hallelujahs” flow like a river
We’re coming back to life
Reaching towards the light
Your love is like springtime

5. “Find me” by Jonathan David & Melissa Helser

Find me grateful
Find me thankful
Find me on my knees
Find me dreaming
Find me singing
Find me lost in your grace

6. “Ancient and Brave” by John Mark McMillan

Ancient and brave
Do you suffer the fate of every man’s rage
All of these years
Do you stain your heart with every man’s fears
While they say
“Where is God at a time like this? Where is God?”
“Where is God at a time like this? Where is God?”
“Where is God at a time like this? Where is God?”
“Where is God at a time like this? Where is God?”

7. “Beloved” by Mumford and Sons

Before you leave
You must know you are beloved
And before you
Leave remember I was with you
And as you leave
I won’t hold you back beloved
